A hazardous materials team found no toxic chemicals on Wednesday after a city cleanup crew reported feeling nauseous while working in an alley in central Modesto, fire officials said.
About 11:30 a.m., the Modesto Fire Department was called to the alley, near Mills and West Roseburg avenues. The city workers were examined by medics from the fire department, but they declined further treatment.
The hazardous materials team used scanning monitors but found nothing toxic in the area.
Modesto fire officials said it’s possible whatever made the cleanup crew sick had already dissipated into the air by the time the hazardous materials checked the area. Authorities remained at the scene for about an hour.
