A 29-year-old man walked into a southbound lane on Highway 99, raised his arms and was killed by an oncoming truck early Thursday morning, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers are calling it an apparent suicide, according to Lt. Charles Grom.
At 1 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received a report of a pedestrian in the roadway near the rest stop in Turlock, according to officer Eric Parsons of the CHP. The CHP then received a call from a truck driver that he had struck a man.
The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of family, Grom said.
