Turlock’s Liberty Market, which opened at Monte Vista Avenue and Geer Road in 1960, was being demolished Wednesday to make way for a CVS drugstore.

Liberty Market was started by Turlock’s Doo brothers -- Jack Sr., George, Ken and Quong Doo -- and it was considered one of the region’s first modern grocery stores. In April 2008, CVS said its new 13,000-square-foot store would employ 25 people and open in late fall.
