Area schoolchildren provide 'hugs' for troops

Modesto and Turlock schoolchildren put together care packages Tuesday for U.S. troops in Iraq.

About 120 boxes were packed with messages created by the kids called “hugs,” seen on the cutout hands at bottom, along with hygiene items, playing cards, candy, socks and other items.

The Blue Star Mothers donated the items for the care packages, and the Red Cross paid for the shipping with a grant.
