 1  FANCY FIDDLER

Two years after she performed in Turlock, Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster returns to the area, this time for a show at the Gallo Center for the Arts. A musician and step dancer on the folk and Celtic music scenes, she has collaborated with Alison Krauss, the Chieftains, Paul Simon and Pavarotti.

 2  MODERN DANCE

Central West Ballet, one of the Gallo Center's resident companies, opens its season with "A Dance Evening of New Creations." The repertory show features the contemporary piece "Existence," about the stages of life; "House of Folk," a high-energy piece set to traditional American music; and "1001 Nights," a colorful, exotic storybook tale.

Get ready for some levity as The World of Laughs presents the Survivor Comedy Competition II. See 15 comics from across the West Coast square off for funny-bone supremacy.  5  BLUES BAND

Enjoy the good-time sound of the No Borders Blues Band. The group plays a mix of blues standards (BB King, Albert King) along with more modern material (Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn). The group's drummer, Animal (no relation to the Muppet) has played with John Mayall, Elvin Bishop and Sly and the Family Stone. Dancing is encouraged.
