Modesto fire stations hold open house Saturday

The Modesto Fire Department is inviting the public Saturday to visit its fire stations and learn how firefighters work as part of National Fire Prevention Week.

Residents can visit one of the city's fire stations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Toy firefighter helmets and stickers will be given to children who attend. The event is geared toward educating adults and children about the importance of fireproofing their homes, installing a smoke alarm outside each sleeping area and replacing smoke alarm batteries at least once a year.

The fire stations are:

- Station 1: 610 11th St.

- Station 2: 420 Chicago Ave.

- Station 3: 635 El Vista Ave.

- Station 4: 1505 Blue Gum Ave.

- Station 5: 200 W. Briggsmore Ave.

- Station 6: 2700 Standiford Ave.

- Station 7: 1800 Mable Ave.

- Station 8: 737 Airport Way

- Station 9: 4025 Fara Biundo Drive

- Station 10: 148 Imperial Ave.

- Station 11: 4225 Carver Road
