After more than a decade of promoting Modesto life, ModestoView founder Chris Murphy published his final edition this month.
ModestoView is a free monthly entertainment tabloid available at clubs, restaurants, cafes and other gathering places around town. It's also available online at modestoview.com. Besides its focus on entertainment,ModestoView also promoted civic involvement. The final issue of ModestoView was distributed Friday.
Murphy's decision had nothing to do with money and everything to do with priorities, Murphy said. He has two daughters and a wife, who has chronic back issues, with whom he'd like to spend more time.
ModestoView began literally as a view of a changing downtown Modesto. In 1997, Murphy and a group of friends hoisted a video camera over a construction site that became Tenth Street Plaza. The tabloid began publishing nine years later, when the city's economy was booming and downtown had an active nightlife and arts scene.
