Wrong-way bicyclist hit by minivan near Gallo winery in Modesto

A Modesto man riding a bicycle was injured Wednesday when a minivan struck him on Yosemite Boulevard near the E.&.J. Gallo Winery in Modesto, police said.

Sergio Ramirez, 39, of Modesto was alert when he was taken by ambulance to a Modesto hospital, said Sgt. Brian Findlen, a Modesto police spokesman. Ramirez's injuries were not life-threatening, Findlen said.

Anna Stewart, 41, of Modesto was driving the minivan, Findlen said. A few children were with her in the minivan, but no one in the minivan was injured.

The accident occurred about 4:45 p.m. when Stewart attempted to turn right from South Morton Boulevard onto eastbound Yosemite. Findlen said Ramirez was riding his mountain bike west along the eastbound lanes, the wrong way, when he crossed Morton and was struck by the minivan. Stewart was not cited or arrested.
