A convicted murderer from Stanislaus County was denied parole, District Attorney Birgit Fladager announced Friday. Freddie Leon Rogers, 50, of Modesto is serving a life sentence for the June 2, 1978, slaying of Jimmie Lee Hendrix in an apartment on Pine Street in Modesto. Deputy District Attorney Sandra Bishop appeared at Rogers' latest parole hearing Wednesday at Salinas Valley Prison. Bishop argued for continued confinement based on the heinous nature of the crime, Rogers' psychological instability and his threat to the community if released, according to a news release. Hendrix was beaten with a tire iron, stabbed numerous times with a knife, and his body thrown into a Salida-area canal.
