CERES -- About 25 to 30 Turlock Irrigation District customers near Mitchell and Hatch roads lost power Friday morning when a big rig driver lost his load, taking out power poles and telephone lines, authorities said.
A power pole was knocked down and power lines were in the road, according to TID public information specialist Jill GeRue. Most of the customers are businesses, she said.
The traffic light at the intersection also was out. The TID had two crews working to restore power. GeRue said the problem was supposed to be fixed by 2 p.m. Friday.
The accident happened at 5:55 a.m. The driver was heading east on Hatch Road when he attempted to turn left on Mitchell, authorities said. The load fell, knocking over telephone poles and power lines.
