NUISANCE HOUSES COMING DOWN: Five vacant Modesto homes that police say are havens for illegal camping, drug use and dangerous fires are set to come under the wrecking ball today. Police say officers and city building inspectors have worked with owners of the homes since October. Three are houses and two are cottages on three separate lots in the airport neighborhood. The owners agreed to allow city workers to demolish the buildings Wednesday morning, according to Modesto police. Under the agreement, the city will place liens on the property until the owners reimburse Modesto for the demolition costs. The homes are unsecured, according to police.
