GLASS SHOP OWNER ARRESTED: Officers arrested the owner of an auto glass shop in north Modesto on suspicion of charging Fireside Dodge more than $100,000 to replace windshields that never were replaced, officials said Thursday. Stanislaus County deputies arrested Escalon resident Kevin Thomas Hawkins, 44, on Monday. He owns Hawkins Mobile Glass. The investigation includes $60,000 in charges from 2006 and $51,000 from 2007, sheriff's spokesman deputy Royjindar Singh said. When deputies confronted Hawkins, he could provide no paperwork to verify that the windshields had been replaced, Singh said. Fireside owner Kevin Sosinsky said 34 of the used cars on his lot still had factory glass, though Hawkins had claimed to have replaced the windshields. Hawkins posted bail Monday after being arrested on suspicion of grand theft, Singh said.
