The Stanislaus County chapter of the American Red Cross will launch a search for an emergency services director to replace Jim Money, who left the position after eight years last month.
Rebecca Ciszek, executive director of the local Red Cross, said the position has been vacant since Feb. 7. Ciszek declined to discuss details of Money's departure, saying it was an employee matter.
"Staff and volunteers are dealing with this and it's been a difficult time," she said Thursday. "We understand he was a benefit to the community and to the position. Much to the credit of our volunteers, we're continuing to provide much-needed services and strengthen our chapter."
Reached at his home by telephone Thursday, Money, 64, said he had "no comment at this time."
Helping families displaced by disaster find clothing, food and a place to stay is one of the duties of the emergency resources director. That person also is responsible for coordinating the organization's volunteers.
Ciszek said she hopes the agency can start recruiting as soon as next week. Ciszek took the helm of the Stanislaus County Red Cross in October 2006.
