Yesteryears

50 YEARS AGO: Atwater awarded its Man of the Year title to Police Chief Quinn Young. Young was credited with combating juvenile delinquency by providing friendly leadership rather than trying to keep youth in line by threats from the law.

25 YEARS AGO: Riverbank's landmark Del Rio Theater, built in 1947 and empty since the 1960s, was being remodeled to house the Greater First Pentecostal Church of Riverbank. Pastor John Reynolds said the 15,000- square-foot structure was purchased from Roy Bailey for $104,000, making it one of the few buildings to sell in 1983 for less than what it had cost to build.
