MERCED -- Police arrested an 18-year-old Merced man Thursday as a suspect in a 2006 homicide in Modesto.
Jabrell McAny, 18, faces charges in the death of Gary Robinson, 56, of Modesto, said officer Tom Martinez of the Gang Violence Suppression Unit.
Robinson was found in an alley near Fourth and I streets in downtown Modesto about 1 a.m. Aug. 13, 2006, said Sgt. Craig Gundlach of the Modesto Police Department. Robinson was taken to a hospital where he died soon after.
Gundlach said police at the time didn't know how Robinson was injured. Detectives and medical personnel determined he had been attacked.
Further information led detectives to identify McAny as a suspect and Modesto police issued an arrest warrant. But it was only recently that they learned he might be in the Merced area.
Martinez said McAny was arrested about 2 p.m. in the 1300 block of East Santa Fe Avenue. He had placed a couch against the apartment door but officers forced their way in and arrested him without further incident.
Police wouldn't say how they learned McAny's whereabouts.
McAny, who was 17 when Robinson died, was booked into Merced County Juvenile Hall.
Gundlach said detectives had not spoken to McAny yet and were waiting for him to be transported to Modesto.
