A classic landscape showing a chapel nestled among snow-covered evergreens at Yosemite National Park was voted the winning photo in The Modesto Bee's "Picture California" contest.

The photo by Judy Holm of Modesto, a secretary at Sonoma Elementary School, received more than 1,300 votes from readers in balloting on www.modbee.com.

A close second was a photo of a herd of goats on a Modesto farm taken by David Scheuber. In third place was a Kenneth Morris photo of a hummingbird in flight.

Holm will receive a framed copy of this page and a basket of Modesto Bee prizes.

Readers submitted nearly 800 photos in the contest, and our editors were greatly impressed with the beauty and creativity they captured.

The theme was "Picture California," and the only rule was that the photos had to have been taken in the state during 2007.

Editors chose 10 finalist images and asked readers to vote for their pick for winner; 3,351 votes were cast.

The Bee will hold more photo contests in 2008, and our first will carry the theme "Picture Romance." Details will be announced Thursday in the paper and at www.modbee.com/topshot.
