SOLO GUITAR CONCERT: The Modesto Junior College Friends of Music will present French guitarist Roland Dyens in a solo guitar concert at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 324 College Ave., across the street from MJC's East Campus. Tickets will be available at the door for $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors.
HEALTH CLASSES AT EMANUEL: Emanuel Medical Center in January will offer a variety of health education classes and programs for residents of Turlock and nearby communities. The classes will be in meeting rooms at the hospital, 825 Delbon Ave.
Free blood pressure checks: 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, in the education training room, east wing. No reservations are required.
Childbirth preparation: A seven-week course to prepare for giving birth. Topics will include the physiology of labor, relaxation exercises, paced breathing, breast-feeding, infant care, safety and a tour of the Mary Stuart Rogers Birthing Center at the hospital. Classes will be 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 31 and Feb. 7, 14 and 21 in Conference Room C, east wing. Cost is $55. Preregistration is required. Class is limited to 12 couples.
Childbirth class: A two-day class from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 12 and 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 13 in Conference Room C, east wing. The class will focus on relaxation and coping skills needed for labor and birth, the birth process, infant care, breast-feeding, Caesarean birth and postpartum care. Preregistration and a $40 fee are required. Class is limited to 12 couples.
Childbirth sibling preparation: The class will teach children how to be a big brother or sister and what to expect when a new baby joins the family. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 in Conference Room C, east wing. Cost is $15 per family. Preregistration is required.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation training: A CPR class for health care providers, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 21 in Conference Room C, east wing. Preregistration and $40 fee are required. Class size is limited.
CPR retraining: This class for health care providers will be from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 16 in Conference Room C, east wing. Knowledge of current guidelines and a CPR card is required. Preregistration and a $30 fee are required.
Living with diabetes: A class on coping with diabetes, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 29 and 31, in Conference Rooms D and E, east wing. Class will focus on diagnosis, principles of nutrition, treatment, medications, healthy habits, acute and chronic complications, glucose monitoring and other topics. Cost is $10 per family for the series or $5 per class.
