Turlock fire results in two firefighters injured, multiple chickens killed
A fast-moving fire in Turlock damaged three homes, displaced residents and injured two firefighters Sunday evening, authorities said.
The blaze was reported about 6:44 p.m. in the 2000 block of Roth Court. Crews found heavy fire engulfing a single-story home, with flames threatening houses on both sides, according to the Turlock Fire Department.
“First arriving units found heavy fire conditions in the main fire building and the houses on both sides starting to catch fire,” said Capt. Jason Bernard of the Turlock Fire Department. “Due to the advanced fire conditions and a total of three houses on fire, a second alarm was sounded.”
Crews worked for about an hour to bring the fire under control. The main home sustained significant damage, and both adjacent houses also were damaged, though firefighters were able to prevent flames from entering those structures. The families living in the neighboring homes were able to return once the fire was extinguished, officials said.
Three people were displaced from the main home. The Red Cross is assisting them with temporary housing and other needs.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze. Both were taken to hospitals, treated and released.
Multiple chickens died in the fire. No other animals were reported injured.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stanislaus County Fire Investigation Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact the FIU at 209-525-5537.
