TORRANCE -- A former state fire captain was sentenced to life in prison without a chance of parole for murdering a woman more than 20 years ago. William Charles Marshall, 45, of Mountain View, was sentenced Friday in Superior Court. Robin Lucille Hoynes, 21, of Whittier, was found stabbed to death Oct. 31, 1984, in a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Torrance, where she was an assistant manager. Authorities said she was killed during a robbery. Marshall had been an employee but was fired days before the killing. He was questioned at the time of the killing but was not charged. Torrance police cold-case investigators reopened the case about two years ago.
