An accident in Ceres on Sunday left two women in the hospital, while a child was flown to the University of California Medical Center in Sacramento, officials said. The accident, at Mitchell and Fowler roads about 8:30 a.m., is under investigation, said Ceres fire Capt. Eric DeHart. The 2-year-old boy was in stable condition Sunday, Ceres police Sgt. Allen P. McKay said. Kavin Young, 24, of Turlock was driving south on Mitchell; Griselda Eligio, 31, of Keyes was driving west on Fowler with passenger Hermelinda Romero, 37, in front and the boy in back in a car seat. Young's 2001 Chevy Astro van hit the passenger side of Eligio's 1990 Honda Accord. Eligio and Romero appeared to have serious injuries. Young was walking around at the scene, McKay said.


A man who, witnesses say, was driving north on Ninth Street at 80 to 100 mph has severe head injuries after crashing into a Jeep that was heading south on Ninth on Sunday about 6 p.m., officials said. The man lost control coming off the bridge heading toward B Street, slid sideways and hit the Jeep, Modesto police Lt. Andy Schlenker said. Two people in the jeep received minor injuries. Alcohol may be related to the crash, Schlenker said.
