USE IT AGAIN! It's Second Chance Week. This is an annual nationwide event that promotes the reuse of old items. In recognition, the city of Modesto is expanding its blue bag recycling program to include the reuse of large blue bags donated from a local industry. Residents can use the bags for household recycling of glass, plastic bottles and jars, aluminum or bimetal cans, cardboard or chipboard and paper products including newspapers, junk mail, magazines, computer paper, phone books and mixed paper. Cardboard and paper products also can be placed in the green yard waste can instead of the blue bag. Free bags will be available at all Modesto Save Mart supermarkets and at the DMC Foundation, 730 McHenry Ave. Look for specially marked distribution bins. Limit one roll per week, please. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT FILM: The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project's Film and Lecture Series will present "The Iron Wall" at 7 p.m. Thursday in Forum Building 110 on the east campus. The 52-minute documentary explains the background and impact of Israel's separation barrier around the West Bank. The presentation is free and open to the public. The film features interviews with prominent Israeli and Palestinian peace activists and political analysts, as well as Israeli settlers and soldiers, and Palestinian farmers. A discussion with regional expert Scott Kennedy will follow.
