Flu shots Tuesday

Free flu shots will be offered to the public Tuesday as part of an emergency services drill in Modesto to prepare the community for a contagious disease pandemic. Along with a shot to ward off common strains of flu, people can see how a mass vaccination would operate during an epidemic. The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency and the county Office of Emergency Services will conduct the exercise from 2 to 6 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 1911 Toyon Ave. The church is off McHenry Avenue, north of Briggsmore Avenue. Health workers are prepared to give 2,000 flu shots to children age 6 months to 17 years and adults of all ages. Vaccine containing no traces of mercury will be available for children 6 months to 3 years.
