Find out if pastor able to make 'Deal'

Patterson pastor Cecil Richardson will appear on the popular game show "Deal or No Deal" tonight, airing at 8 p.m. on NBC. The show, hosted by comedian Howie Mandel, has contestants guess which numbered suitcase has the big prize while wheeling and dealing for more money.

San Joaquin County announced Thursday a ninth human case of West Nile virus for this year. A 16-year-old boy who lives in southern

San Joaquin County developed West Nile fever, the less severe form of the mosquito-borne virus, county spokeswoman Karen McConnell said. She noted that while the weather is cooling, mosquitoes still are swarming and will be until the first deep frost.

Discuss district elections at forum

Modesto will host one last forum tonight for voters who want to learn more about two measures on the November ballot that could lead to the city adopting district elections for its 2009 City Council races. The forum will take place at 7 p.m. at Modesto High School.

Castle will open cockpits to public Check out the inside of a

KC-97 air tanker at the Castle Air Museum's Open Cockpit Day later this month. "There's a lot to see out here and we hope for good weather," Caroline Venable, secretary to the museum's board of directors, said. She expects to be plenty busy that day and said visitors can check out the 49 planes on display, including the B-52 Stratofortress seen above, about two dozen antique cars, children's events or take helicopter rides.


75 YEARS AGO: In an attempt to curb gate- crashing at football games played at the Modesto Junior College Stadium, seven youths, five of whom police said were students, were cited on charges of disturbing the peace. They allegedly climbed a fence to gain entrance to a Friday night football game.

25 YEARS AGO: Ceres farmer Clarence Bettencourt, 24, and Timothy Fisher of Hughson were two of 22 Californians to receive medals of valor at the 60th annual conference of the California State Firemen Association in Fresno. The awards were given for extraordinary acts of heroism; Bettencourt and Fisher received their awards for rescuing occupants of a burning auto in an October 1981 accident south of Modesto. -- Karen Aiello
