PROTECTING THE ELDERLY TOPIC OF SHOW: A Stanislaus County official will discuss the importance of elderly protection services on Saturday's "Behind the Badge" radio show. Egon Stammler is an assistant director in Stanislaus County's Adult Services Division of the Community Services Agency. He and other staffers investigate reports of elderly abuse and help victims. State funding for these programs was cut from the final budget. Stammler and others are worried there will not be enough county money to keep the Adult Services Division at its current staffing levels. Stammler said reports of elderly abuse have increased by 50 percent since 2000, while his division's staff has not increased. He said the issue is expected to go before the county Board of Supervisors in mid-October. The live show, hosted by California Highway Patrol officer Tom Killian, Modesto police Detective Doug Ridenour and Manteca police spokesman Rex Osborn, is on 1360 AM from 9 to 10 a.m. Listeners can call in to the show at 551-3483.
