DRIVER HITS BOY, GIVES HIM RIDE, THEN LEAVES: Modesto police are investigating what might be a hit-and-run, might be a kidnapping, or might be none of the above. A 7-year-old boy was walking his bicycle across Seacrest Way at Marsha Avenue near West Rumble Road about 5:15 p.m. when he was hit by a black Ford F-250 pickup, Lt. Andy Schlenker said. The driver stopped, got out of the truck, swore at the boy and then asked if he was OK, the victim told police. The driver then put the bicycle in the back of his truck and put the boy in the cab. Police reported that the man took the boy home, dropped him off at the curb, then left. The boy had a possible broken arm plus cuts and bruises on his left leg, Schlenker said.
BICYCLIST'S IDENTITY RELEASED: Police have identified the bicyclist killed Sept. 18 in a head-on crash with a big rig as Kent Hill, 41, of Modesto. Hill was not carrying identification as he rode the wrong way on westbound Briggsmore Avenue. He reportedly swerved into the path of the oncoming big rig and was run over west of McHenry Avenue in Modesto, police said. Hill was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he died of massive internal injuries.
