University of the Pacific students, staff and faculty gathered Monday to sign their names and pen a saying or two on the last steel girder to be welded into place on the University Center.
The center, scheduled to open next summer, will include an information center, dining hall, two cafeterias, a ballroom for functions and concerts, and the campus’ first fully functional pub. By the end of the day, people had to search for an open spot to sign. A ceremony took place at 4 p.m. before the beam was lifted into place.
