What: WASTE TIRE DISPOSAL EVENT

Info: The Stanislaus County Department of Environmental Resources is holding a two-week waste tire disposal event. It is for residents of unincorporated areas – Empire, Salida, Keyes, Grayson, Hickman, La Grange, Knights Ferry, etc. Residents can go to the Department of Environmental Resources office and ask for vouchers to dispose of up to nine car or truck tires. No tractor tires will be accepted. Vouchers and tires may then be taken to your designated trash hauler for free disposal. One voucher per household will be available. What: EAT BETTER, MOVE BETTER PROGRAM
When: Monday through March 23, 10:45 to 11:15 a.m.
Where: Waterford Community Center, 540 C St.
Info: The Healthy Aging Association, Area Agency on Aging and Howard Training Center will present the Eat Better, Move Better program. Any senior 60 or older is welcome to attend. The program is a free, short, interactive nutrition and physical activity session offered once a week for four weeks. Participants will earn rewards, win weekly prizes and qualify for a grand prize at the end of the program. For more information, call (209) 523-2800.

50 YEARS AGO: The College Avenue Investigating Committee voted 4-2 to widen College Avenue from 7 feet to 9 feet on its west side from Needham Street north to Coldwell Avenue. The six-member committee was appointed by the mayor to consider this option. The committee’s findings would then be sent to the City Council at its next meeting.
