Where is Patterson, California? ICE shooting in Stanislaus County
Local law enforcement are instructing drivers to avoid the area of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer-involved shooting.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said in a statement Tuesday officers were attempting to “to arrest Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez.” According to federal officials he attempted to “run an officer over” with his vehicle.
Mendoza Hernandez was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.
Patterson, a fast-growing city of about 26,000 people, is on the west side of Stanislaus County in the Northern San Joaquin Valley in California.
According to the city, 68.1% of Patterson’s population is Latino. And the total has more than doubled since 2000, according to the California Department of Finance.
The broader Stanislaus County is a heavily agricultural area with a Latino and Hispanic population of 51.5%.
In 1971, the agricultural city became the self-proclaimed “Apricot Capital of the World” according to the Patterson Irrigator. It is home to the annual Apricot Fiesta.
The city is about 15 miles southwest of Modesto and nearly 80 miles southeast of Sacramento.
