Exciting news for crafting and burger enthusiasts in Turlock (and who doesn’t love both?).

Hobby Lobby and Habit Burger are coming to Monte Vista Crossings.

Hobby Lobby has been rumored for weeks; city officials on Thursday confirmed the crafting giant will open early next year in a 45,000-square-foot building in the center, at the corner of Monte Vista Avenue and Countryside Drive.

According to officials, Turlock’s Hobby Lobby will be the 705th store in the United States and the 35th in California. The craft superstore has a site in Modesto on McHenry Avenue.

“We have had our eye on Turlock for a while and are excited to finally get started on construction,” Hobby Lobby spokesman Bob Miller said in the email. “We look forward to getting the doors open and becoming a part of the community.”

Look for Hobby Lobby to open in Spring 2017.

A few months after that, the Habit Burger Grill will open just down the street, next to Buffalo Wild Wings.

Construction on the Habit is scheduled to start in November, with an opening anticipated next summer, according to Hall Equities Group, which operates the center. The Santa Barbara-based Habit has a strong fan base for its fast-casual fresh burgers, famously judged by Consumer Reports as the best-tasting in America.

I lost count of the number of emails I received after writing that the Habit would be opening in Modesto last year. That location opened in September 2016 and has been doing a bang-up business since.

I’ve partaken of a Habit burger – just doing my columnist duty, of course – and I have two words for you, Turlockers: Mushroom Char. Yum.
