Wal-Mart representatives have asked the Ceres City Council to postpone the public hearing for the Mitchell Ranch Center scheduled for Monday.

The Mitchell Ranch Center is a proposed 300,000-square-foot shopping center anchored by Wal-Mart.

The company wants to sell its current store at Mitchell and Hatch roads and build a supercenter at Mitchell and Service roads.

It is the sale strategy of the existing store that Wal-Mart representatives say they need more time to work out. Representatives asked that the public hearing on the matter be continued to Aug. 22.

The item is still on the agenda for Monday night's meeting, at which the council will vote whether to grant a continuance.
