Downtown Modesto nightclub can’t sell or serve alcohol for 20 days. Here’s what happened

A downtown Modesto nightclub’s alcohol license was suspended by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for violating the law.

Rancho Fresco Cantina & Nightclub, at 950 10th St., can’t sell or serve alcohol for 20 days — effective Jan. 2 through Jan. 21 .

An ABC investigation uncovered two violations, said Devin Blankenship, a spokesperson for the department. A minor, age 20, was working as a bartender and also was consuming alcohol.

The incident occurred on June 21, 2024.

California law says no person under age 21 may be employed for the purpose of preparing or serving alcoholic beverages, and that it is illegal for persons under 21 to purchase alcohol or to consume alcohol in any on-sale premises.

Both violations are misdemeanor offenses.

The suspension affects Rancho Fresco’s restaurant, which has an address of 1008 J St., the cantina/nightclub and the catering licenses.
