A resident of Elk Grove in Sacramento County was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 4 in northern Stanislaus County on Thursday night.

At about 10:45 p.m., 28-year-old Linda Doud was driving a 2006 Honda Civic west on Highway 4 just west of Rock Creek, according to the California Highway Patrol. Another woman, 23-year-old Laura Murphy of Los Altos in Santa Clara County, was coming the opposite direction in a Ford Focus when Doud’s Honda crossed the double yellow lines dividing the lanes.

Doud was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release by CHP Officer Eric Parsons. Her front-seat passenger, 41-year-old Kimberly Cota of Elk Grove, was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries.

Murphy was taken by air ambulance to Memorial Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
