Modesto-area firefighters had a busy night and morning, battling three fires in an eight-hour span.

Ceres firefighters assisted Modesto Fire Department crews at a fire in a vacant house on Oak Street in Modesto. A report of a house fire came in around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of arrival and an overhaul of the property took about 90 minutes, officials said. The cause is under investigation.
At 12:50 a.m. Friday, Modesto firefighters were dispatched to reports of trees on fire at Dryden Golf Course. Two large eucalyptus trees were burning into their canopy, as was vegetation around them. Crews were able to control the fire and cleared the scene within an hour. The cause is under investigation.

About 4:45 a.m. Friday, Modesto firefighters – along with Stanislaus Consolidated Fire and Ceres Fire crews – were dispatched to Empire Avenue for reports of a trash fire in an alley. The fire threatened several buildings and a trailer. The trash pile burned along with several fences, two storage sheds and a trailer. Local utilities were requested to repair burned power lines. The cause is under investigation.
