Modesto cops arrest man wanted in Tuolumne County on $1.5 million warrant

A man with a lousy attendance record in Tuolumne County Superior Court will soon have his long-avoided visit with the judge, courtesy of the Modesto police.

Officers responding to a report of a fight on the 2100 block of Mt. Vernon at 1:15 a.m. this morning found Emil Anthony, 28, of Modesto hiding in the bushes. When they ran his background, they found he had an outstanding $1.5 million arrest warrant on misdemeanor charges.

That much for misdemeanors?

A Tuolumne County court clerk said Anthony was convicted June 2, 2005, for driving on a suspended license and for failing to provide proof of insurance. He was given probation.

Over the past four years, he’s failed to appear in court 14 times, with each absence no doubt testing the judge’s patience. Anthony was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail and will be turned over to Tuolumne County authorities for safe-keeping.
