The mercury is climbing at the Modesto Irrigation District weather station in downtown Modesto, where the temperature reached 96 degrees late this afternoon.

The record high for this date on MID's gauges was 100 degrees, set in 1985.

The Weather Underground forecast calls for highs in the 90s every day for the remainder of this week. For the latest forecasts for Modesto and surrounding communities, go to www.modbee.com/weather.
