Student from Manteca found dead in Fresno Pacific dorm

FRESNO - Fresno Pacific University officials said they believe a 19-year-old student found dead in her dorm room Saturday died of natural causes.

Jeanette Mathews, a sophomore from Manteca, was found Saturday afternoon by another student, said Wayne Steffen, a university spokesman.

Fresno police officers were called to the campus to investigate the death, but did not find any signs of foul play, Lt. Tony Bennink said.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office did an autopsy Sunday, but results have not been made public, a spokeswoman said.

A memorial service for Mathews was held Sunday on campus.

“Our prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time,” university president D. Merrill Ewert said in a news release.
