Young Idol field narrows to six

The field for the Modesto Symphony Orchestra's Young Idol competition is down to six, with Adolfo Hernandez, 14, of Turlock eliminated this week.

The top three vote-getters this past week were Ashlyn Inman, 13, of Turlock; Shaniya Martin, 8, of Newman; and Emily Kay Shrader, 16, of Modesto.

The winner of the talent contest will perform at the symphony's Holiday Pops concert at the Gallo Center for the Arts.

Demo recordings and short biographies of performers are available at www.modbee.com/youngidol. Readers can vote for their favorites online, with one hopeful being eliminated each week.

In addition to singing at the symphony's holiday performances at the Gallo Center in December, the winner will receive several other prizes: limo service on the night of the concert, dinner for four at Bacchus restaurant, a spa package, a $100 gift card to Vintage Faire Mall and the chance to record a CD for free at Celestial Sounds studio in Modesto.
