ModestoView ceases publication with its October issue

ModestoView, the free entertainment tabloid distributed at clubs and restaurants in the Modesto area, has printed its final issue, publisher Chris Murphy tells readers in the October issue released today.

Murphy said he was ceasing publication to spend more time with his family and tend to other business matters.

"We have had a great time changing the conversation here in the greater Modesto area," Murphy said in a farewell column. "Our magazine shook up the local entertainment media scene."

In an apparent reference to The Modesto Bee, he said "traditional media" had updated their format to be more like his publication.

"Other new magazines have emerged and show that our local living is very interesting and we should be proud," he said.

Murphy said he will continue to be involved with the Modesto Area Music Association awards. He was one of the founders of the an annual event that gives "MAMA" awards to musicians.
