When she pulled in the other lane to pass, Delgado saw the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing with his back to her, directly in her path, the CHP said.
She veered to the right, the CHP said, but struck the man and collided with the vehicle driven by Martin.
Both drivers lost control of their vehicles, and Martin's vehicle crashed into a power pole, the CHP said, suffering major damage.
Paramedics on the scene pronounced the pedestrian deceased. His identity was not immediately known.
Delgado was taken to Kaiser Medical Center in Modesto with minor injuries.
Martin and her two juvenile passengers, ages 12 and 5, were taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with minor injuries.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as a contributing factor in this collision.
