Backers of the Modesto branch of the Altamont Commuter Express will celebrate its pending construction at a June 22 reception.
The event, free and open to the public, will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Gallo Center for the Arts grand lobby, 10th and I streets.
ACE has run between Stockton and San Jose by way of Livermore since 1998. It has four morning and four evening trips on weekdays, mainly serving Silicon Valley workers. It also has had special trains to 49ers football games in Santa Clara.
The Modesto branch, including a downtown station, could be ready by 2019 thanks to a $400 million earmark in a state gas tax increase approved in April. A draft environmental impact report is out for public comment. An extension to Merced could follow in a few years.
The reception, hosted by the Downtown Modesto Partnership and several co-sponsors, will feature food samples from local restaurants and beverages. State lawmakers who helped secure the funding will attend.
People planning to take part should RSVP at www.domopartnership.org.
