The body of a male adult was recovered Thursday night from the Tuolumne River in the area of the Modesto Airport and the Mitchell Road bridge.
Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection crews responded to assist the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department with the recovery.
The call went out shortly before 7 p.m., said Stanislaus Consolidated spokeswoman Carissa Higginbotham.
Crews used a boat “to transport the victim back to the boat launch site for the Coroner’s Office,” according to an MFD incident summary. “The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death to rule out any foul play.”
The body was found submerged near the southeast corner of the Mitchell Bridge, said Sgt. Anthony Bejaran, Sheriff’s Department spokesman. Identification is pending notification of next of kin, he said Friday afternoon, and the cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology results.
