An 89-year-old woman who was admitted to the skilled nursing portion of Bethel Retirement Community Friday evening was found unresponsive in rose bushes below her third story room several hours later.
Initial reports indicate the woman jumped from the window at the facility on Scenic Drive east of Oakdale Road but Modesto Police Department Lt. Martha Delgado said that remains under investigation. She said no one witnessed her jump but she previously had spoken of suicide.
Modesto Battalion Chief Darin Jesberg said the woman had significant trauma to her face, legs and wrists. Emergency personnel began cardiopulmonary resuscitation but the woman was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Jesberg said the woman was admitted to Bethel at about 5:30 p.m. She was found four hours later.
