Fire on Oak. Fire on Elm. It was a busy Thursday morning for Modesto fire crews.

Thursday morning was a hectic one for Modesto-area firefighters, who responded to two west Modesto fires.

In the early morning hours on Thursday, Modesto Fire Department and Ceres Fire Department crews were dispatched to a working structure fire on Oak Street. First-arriving crews reported a single-story duplex residence with heavy fire from one side, according to the Modesto Fire Department.

Crews were able to contain the damage to the unit of origin. Three residents were displaced and the American Red Cross assisted them, the fire department said. The cause is under investigation and damage is estimated at $50,000, the fire department said.

Later in the morning, at about 10:30, several crews responded to a fire in a detached garage on Elm Street in west Modesto. The fire was under control within about an hour.

Modesto and Ceres fire crews assisted Woodland Avenue Fire District with the Elm fire. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation, according to the Modesto Fire Department.
