Sleep Better

It's hard to stay in good shape if you're too tired to exercise. Here are some tips for fighting insomnia:

  • Don't drink alcohol or caffeine close to bedtime.
  • When awake at night, don't look at the clock; it can heighten anxiety about losing sleep.
  • Exercise regularly, though not within a few hours of bedtime.
  • Try to get up at the same time every day, even on weekends, to establish a regular sleep schedule.
  • Rather than toss and turn, get up and do something relaxing, such as reading. Don't return to bed until you feel quite sleepy.
  • Make sure your bedroom is conducive to sleep. Ideally, it should be dark, quiet and warm but not hot.
