It's hard to stay in good shape if you're too tired to exercise. Here are some tips for fighting insomnia:
When awake at night, don't look at the clock; it can heighten anxiety about losing sleep.
Exercise regularly, though not within a few hours of bedtime.
Try to get up at the same time every day, even on weekends, to establish a regular sleep schedule.
Rather than toss and turn, get up and do something relaxing, such as reading. Don't return to bed until you feel quite sleepy.
Make sure your bedroom is conducive to sleep. Ideally, it should be dark, quiet and warm but not hot.
- Don't drink alcohol or caffeine close to bedtime.
