Parents and students can learn more about home-schooling high school students. Topics will include: making the most of junior high years, scheduling and lesson plans, course of study, honors courses, recordkeeping, planning for the future, grades and credits, accredited/nonaccredited, transcripts and GPA, state requirements and legality, diplomas, graduation requirements, testing, driver education and driver training, work permits, dual enrollment in high school and college, college prep, scholarships, special-needs students, and more.
The workshop is taught by Paulette Applegate, a "retired" home-school mom of four.
She and her husband, Jim, have owned and operated a home-school supply store, provided curriculum counseling, taught workshops for home-schooling parents, served as support group leaders and currently serve as administrators of Providence Christian Academy, a private school for home-schooling families.
Gaslight Theater, part one
The Denair Gaslight Theater is holding auditions for teens and adults for roles in the "The Importance of Being Earnest," by Oscar Wilde, on Monday and Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The Denair Gaslight Theater is at 3908 N. Gratton Road in Denair. Performances will be held Oct. 3-19. For more information, contact the director, Amber Bradford, at 996-3477.
Gaslight Theater, part two
The Gaslight Community Conservatory's Starmites will be auditioning for their Fall semester's musical production of "A Christmas Carol" on Aug. 7-8 at 6 p.m. at the Denair Gaslight Theater.
Parts available for ages 4 to 18. All who audition will receive a part. Please bring a prepared song and a monologue each about a minute long. Classes/rehearsals will be on Thursday afternoons and performances will be held Nov. 20-23. Cost is $120 for the semester, which includes a T-shirt.
