"For all those who aren't already aware of this, reality shows don't usually portray reality very realistically. I know, crazy right?! Now, I know this is a completely cliché answer, but my favorite show is 'American Idol,' which I can finally audition for this summer! During the commercials, I usually sprint to my room and sing the first song that comes to mind at the top of my lungs, pretending I'm on the show. I imagine Randy calling my performance 'da bomb,' Paula saying some crazy random thing and Simon giving me a standing ovation. Don't tell anyone I told you that, though ..."

" 'America's Next Top Model.' I've never seen it, but I love it. It's huge among my friends. I hear about whatever happens on the show the next day from them, whether they're acting out the 'reality' or just speaking about it. I can't get enough of 'America's Next Top Model.' "

" 'American Idol,' of course! This show is extremely entertaining and rather addicting. It is also a fantastic way for an aspiring singer to win America's heart and become the next superstar. I have been a devout fan since its first season. Carrie Underwood is my favorite winner so far. Not only is she the most successful American Idol, she is also the most talented. However, I absolutely LOVE David Archuleta! And I do believe that 'American Idol' would be nothing without Simon Cowell. Although he is often critical, he is honest, and I always seem to agree with him. I look forward to this season's big finale."

"To be completely honest, I hate reality television. First of all, it is completely UNREALISTIC. Half the stuff in the shows is scripted, cut and edited so much that it is about as far from reality as you can get. Furthermore, I find many of the reality shows on television today to be insulting to anyone with an intellect. 'The Swan,' 'My Super Sweet 16,' 'Wife Swap' -- I mean, come on, how shallow and petty can you get?"

"I think that the phrase 'best reality show' is kind of a paradox in itself. Reality shows today aren't all that good, and are better labeled as 'intriguing.' However, I'll eat my words and admit that my guilty pleasure is watching 'America's Next Top Model' reruns on lazy weekends. Obviously, it's purely the entertainment factor, making me want to be a model -- for all of .005 seconds. Plus, during the writers' strike, I realized just how inane the reality shows are, as they were the only source of TV entertainment for three months!"
Rebecca Mears, Freshman, Modesto High School
"Honestly, I don't like reality TV shows. I just don't like watching the 'hardships' of other people's lives. We've all got baggage, so we might as well accept it and move on with our lives instead of flaunting it all over the television screen to make some extra cash. Still, all that being said and done, every Thursday night at 10 p.m. on Bravo, I just have to watch 'Step It Up and Dance.' My cousin Janelle is a contestant on that show, and it's nice to see how well she does against other dancers. So far, she's proved to be more talented than I thought. Plus, I get to see all the stupid things she's said on TV! I won't ever let her live some of them down!"
