Six high schools from throughout Stanislaus County will perform in Modesto Junior College's annual High School Orchestra Day on Nov. 8.
The free event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Downey High School auditorium, 1000 Coffee Road, Modesto..
MJC Community Orchestra conductor and strings professor Anne Martin will lead a clinic with the high school music students. A Gypsy tune will be performed by an ensemble of music teachers that includes Joanne Neuffer, flute; Donna Harrison, Don Grishaw and Anne Martin, violins; and Dan Bryan, percussion.
Participating schools include Downey High, directed by Joanne Neuffer; Davis High, directed by Dan Bryan; Turlock High, led by Donna Harrison; Pitman High, led by Don Grishaw; Enochs High directed by Bryan Williams, and Modesto High, directed by Rick Paderes. The event will end with the Irish jig "Off She Goes," performed by all 200 of the high school string musicians.
