Stanislaus State awards 16 scholarships

Sixteen recent high school graduates have been selected as recipients of the 2007-08 President's and Provost's Scholarships at California State University, Stanislaus, in Turlock.

Those awarded the largest individual scholarships at Stanislaus State include eight graduating high school seniors who have been named President's Scholars and another eight selected as Provost's Scholars. President's Scholarships are $12,500 per year for four years and the Provost Scholarships are $3,500 per year for four years.

Named as President's Scholars are: Charlene Emerson of Livermore High School; Jeffery Fuller of Golden Valley High School, Merced; Christin Gowan of East Union High School, Manteca; Nichole Hurst of Modesto High School; Katherine Kennedy of Big Valley Christian High School, Modesto; Marina Long of Modesto High School; Alyssa Toone of East Union High School; and Jackson Leverone of Modesto High School.

Provost Scholarship recipients are: Lauren Balos of Beyer High School; Jennifer Carely of Clear Lake High School, Lakeport; Jonathan Kamp of Pitman High School; Chloé Minor of Pitman High School; Laralyn Murphy of Modesto, home-schooled; Eric Nystrom of Turlock High School; Frances Palmer of Modesto Christian High School; and Stephanie Wurz of Summerville High School.

"These scholarships are aimed at bringing the Valley's brightest students to California State University, Stanislaus," university President Hamid Shirvani said.
