Next week’s official arrival of fall will be ushered in with a weekend of diverse festivals celebrating everything from Mediterranean food to the cooking of chili and the good old American harvest.
Also finishing up this weekend is the nine-day, seventh annual Modesto Architecture Festival with exhibits, tours, workshops and more. And California State University, Stanislaus, invites the community to campus for a child-geared event.

49er Festival, Chili & Salsa Cook-Off – Today: Kids activities, parade, live entertainment, auctions, chili and salsa tastings, and more. Also, annual chili cook-off competition. Breakfast at 7 a.m.; festival closes at 5 p.m. Downtown Groveland. www.49erfestival.blogspot.com.
Mesopotamian Food Festival – Today-Sunday: Mediterranean food including kebabs and shawarma, live entertainment, games for children, exhibits, folkloric dancing and more. Greek Food Festival – Today-Sunday: Greek dinner, homemade pastries, church tours, agora (marketplace), live entertainment. Noon to 9 p.m. today, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Hughson Harvest Festival – Today-Sunday: Chili cook-off, vendors, food, arts and crafts, farmers market, carnival games, petting zoo, pony rides. There will be alumni baseball and football games, a street dance, a car show, farm equipment on display and a reptile exhibit and show. Stanfest – Sunday: The Associated Students at California State University, Stanislaus, invite the community to a campus carnival featuring games, bounce houses, face painting and other youth activities.
