Merced Superior Court has received a $50,000 grant to upgrade online jury services.
Linda Romero Soles, the court’s chief executive, said the upgrades will make jury service easier and more efficient. She said the upgrades will allow people to perform the following functions using an iPad, computer and some mobile devices: completing a jury summons questionnaire online; requesting a jury extension or postponement online, and when the request is received the recipient will automatically receive a new summons in the mail requesting a disqualification online with proof; and change of address online, with proof of residence, the court said.
Additionally, court staff will use iPads at the main courthouse entrance to meet and excuse jurors when a jury panel is no longer needed at the last minute, Romero Soles said.
The court will implement the new system beginning Tuesday.
